Due to licensing, I can't use our copy of MS project at work. I have never used Project, and I hear it is complicated, or at least, not intuitive.
Is there an alternative ( as always, preferably free ) that is maybe more friendly. I just started being assigned some small projects, and as I work on these projects I can tell I need something to help stay organized.

Hi Jeff,

Two ideas for two:

(1) ]project-open[ is an open source project manager. It is available for download at SourceForge:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/project-open/

But there's a lot more info about it (and downloads, too) at its own website:
http://www.project-open.org/

It has a Windows installer that supports Vista, W7, and W8:
http://www.project-open.org/en/install_windows

(2) I use several products from the Zoho folks:
https://www.zoho.com/

All of their products are cloud-based. One of them is Zoho Projects:
https://www.zoho.com/projects/

It has a free version, but only for one project and 10MB of file storage. Although very limited, it would allow you to try it for free to see if it works for you. If you like it, there's a version for $20/month that allows 20 projects and 5GB of storage. Here's the full pricing table:
https://www.zoho.com/projects/zohoprojects-pricing.html

While you're at it, take a look at their CRM, which is excellent:
https://www.zoho.com/crm/

It also has a free version for up to 3 users and 5,000 records.

As a disclaimer, I want to emphasize that I have no affiliation with Zoho and no financial interest in it whatsoever. I am simply a happy user/customer. Regards, Joe
