Standard PCI and 9k Jumbo Packet

Hi Experts,

I am interfacing with multiple devices via Ethernet, which require 9k Jumbo Packet framing.  Is it possible to do this communication over standard (non-express) PCI?  I have already utilized all of my PCIe and OnBoardLAN ports.

Thanks,
-Matt

Yes - the 9K packet size doesn't necessarily mean you need a faster communication bus.

OK, thanks for your reply.  So, do you know if this ever happened, or had manufacturers already switched to PCIe-type sockets by the time 9k packets became supported?  I'm trying to find a 9k-supported PCI card, but haven't found any.

9k packets have been around for a while.  Intel made standard PCI cards with jumbo-frame support, as did Realtek and Marvell.  It's not the manufacturer that you need to worry about, but more who makes the chip that sits on the NIC.  That's what's important.

I'm pretty sure the Intel PRO/100 VE and PRO/100 S cards support Jumbo frames.
