WSUS Questions regarding Drivers and reducing time.

I just tested updating Windows 7 client with WSUS, it seems that it doesn't help much to reduce the time for updating OS as I see most of time taken doing the process is at actually installing updates, not downloading.

Second, using WSUS, I lose important updates for hardware such as graphic card driver. It was included in Windows update, now pointing to WSUS, I can't enable 'Drivers' checked because it will give 10k list of drivers to approve/unapprove.

Are there any work around you can think of for the above two issues?

I'm not impressed using WSUS except reducing bandwidth for internet, but now our internet bandwidth is 10 times faster than 2 years ago...

I don't think you have options to speed up the time it takes to apply updates.  You can speed up downloads but I don't think applying.

for the driver part, what if you set your view to only view updates in the "driver" classification. choose all updates and expressly DECLINE all except the few that apply. You can use ctrl and shift keys to select in bunches.

Decline all and approve back a few. That's smart...
