HP Procurve HP2510G-24 no username prompt

Hi,

We have a ProCurve switch that only prompts for password but no username, when connected via console. How do I bring the username prompt?

I have set different passwords for manager and operator, and each password gets me in the appropriate mode without having to type in a username, but all our other switches prompt for both, so not sure why this is  different? Do I need to set up optional usernames first?

Thanks!

I thought it was something like this, though it's been  a while I had to deal with HP switches:

# password manager user-name admin

Open in new window

Other than that you can set the user name through the webconsole of the switch no?

Security => Device Passwords

[edit]
Just had a browse through the manual:
Note that the Command Prompt and switch console interfaces use only the
password, and do not prompt you for the User Name.
