Hi

I have brought a Qnap TS-879U-RP. The storage space is 8x4TB hard disk and I have created a Raid 5 with one hot spare. I will using to back up all our servers  and user documents.
We use windows servers as a file server and a third party backup software backup assist runs on these servers to backup to the Qnap.
Please ,suggest the best way of configure and use it.

Thanks

That isn't a simple question to answer. What is "the best" for my medical clinic client indefinitely not "the best" for my legal firm client, and neither wood be "the best" for you. Backup scheduling and retention policies must be made part of a larger disaster recovery plan and be made to meet the goals of that plan. Backing up more often takes more space, as does longer retention, and can interfere with regular business. But that is sometimes required.

Backup Assist is very flexible in this regard and is a good product. But it is only as good as your plan. Entire books have been written about IT disaster recovery plan, and many are product agnostic. There is even a book from the popular "for dummies" series on the subject. If you haven't mapped out your DR goals, a book is a good start.
