Hi,

My question is related to my other open question http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/VMWare/Q_28345313.html

I perform 3 blade server ESX upgrade from 4 to esxi 5 update 3. First I upgrade the AMM firmware , then perform esx upgrade. The upgrade didnt cause any issue, but 3 days after the upgrade, one of esxi host upgrade was unstable, is would hang.

So I upgrade the blade server firmware. After monitor it for a week it seems stable. The problem i faced now is when i login to IBM storage configuration manager 2.20, when i select on the sas raid module, click on storage menu or host mapping there is empty page on the right pane.

I check in the AMM event log and saw error and warning on the battery backup unit on module 3. But there is no amber light on the physical battery backup unit.

Does firmware upgrade for IBM BladeCenter S, if perform need to upgrade the whole chassis, blade server and all its i/o module?

Yes, each component's Firmware needs to be upgraded, AMM, Blace Servers, I/O modules, Disk/RAID controllers and storage modules.
See explanation here: https://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/bladectr/documentation/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.bladecenter.8886.doc/dw1fs_t_updating_firmware.html

I suggest you look for firmwares for your components here:
http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/support#

Blade server FW might not be so crucial, but SAS RAID controller and I/O modules need to be upgraded with fresh Firmware, if you put new FW to AMM.

Thank you Labsy for your explanation. Would there be issues occurs after firmware upgrade for I/O module?

Any best practice for the I/O module firmware upgrade?

Is it recommended to flash the I/O module firmware to its latest firmware version?
