I'm trying to install the VMWare tools on a server.  When I click on Guest and say install tools nothing happens.. Can someone help?  I've tried to follow directions on the site but it's not really clear about what do do.

You do have to make sure that you are logged on to the Virtual Guest OS before the installation will proceed. Open the console, and on the console window click the VM menu option (I don't have it in front of me, so I may not get the location exactly right), choose Install VMware Tools... and be patient. On some systems, it takes a little bit for the prompts to show. Follow the prompts. The mouse movement, as I am sure you know, will be choppy at best. Again, be patient and move slowly. Once it is completed, the mouse behavior will improve.

I have experienced needing to have the VMware install CD in the CD-ROM drive the first time (but that was the very first time).

Good luck.

What OS is the "Guest"? If Windows, after you have selected to install the tools, open guest's CD drive which should now contain the image of the tools CD. Then just start the exe file to start the installation.

You can manually run the Setup.exe that will be there in the CDROM. that will install the tools on the VM.
