Hi All,

Is there a list of drives that I can use with the Windows Server 2008 R2 native backup solution without headaches?

I recall Seagate Flex series a while back worked like a charm.

I know this has something to do with the 4K logical sectors etc.. but I need a list of drives that I can purchase to protect my physical windows server 2008 R2 installations.

Thanks,

There is no such list of drives but all of the drives which are not true 4K sector drives are ok for you. There are drives whihc use both 512 and 4k formatting and 512 is used on them for compatibility issues.
Anyhow if you want to take backups and dont care about the drive compatibility issues then get yourself a copy of Paragon Hard Disk Manager 14 Basic http://www.paragon-software.com/small-business/

and use it to take backup. It does not care of sector size and protects the server effectively.

Thank you for your feedback, I'll have that in mind.

But if someone does have a list of compatible drives that would be most beneficial. At one point I had come across a list for SBS 2011 which was beneficial for me to choose a drive.

If someone has this list then please share with us.

I found this:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/1780.windows-small-business-server-external-backup-drives-compatibility-list.aspx

I had used this as a reference. It was very beneficial. I think this list should be updated. Anyhow, I will use the drives in this list as a basis since they provided me with easy to use backup drives that worked perfectly with SBS 2011 or Windows Server 2008 R2 server backups.

If anyone has any drives that are newer than the ones in this list and they work with W2K8R2 out of the box, then please place here.
