Creative an MS Project Template

Hi everyone,

I'm pretty new to MS Project but one of the things that I've noticed is that I use the same task names over and over on each project.  Is there a way for me to create a template so when a NEW project is created, it uploads the tasks in order and I can just fill in the resource names and duration's?

Create your list of tasks with dependencies etc the File, Save as, and change type to MS Project Template

When you do file new in the future you can choose your template to start with
if you want this to always be the default whenever you hit new, blank project, for example you can save it as "global.mpt" which is the one Project normally loads - I don't recommend this because its annoying when you actually want to go back to project defaults, so you would have to save a blank project under a different name (MS_Global.MPT for example) before you start editing

You can also set project options, advanced - 'Open last file on start up', 'always prompt for project info on save' which will help with showing defaults.

Couple of caveats -
You need to set the project start date each time you create a new project
Project calendar is key to making schedule work - its worth putting effort in to get that right in your template - adding holidays, changing working time and so on - because you will tend to forget when you open a template

Thank you!  I created the template and I'm going to play with the various options and see what works best.
