Where do i go to reduce the width of my black navigation bar on left.  It is about 50px too wide.  Also, if I reduce this width, will that negatively impact how the animation fits into this opening?

The only way would be to step down to 2 columns and remove the padding on the anchor tag.
It will have an inpact on the slider as you will now need to increase the image width to fit properly.
To me it looks fine on a standard sized browser screen, if you are looking at it full screen then yes it looks too big, but the only people who generally have their browser larger than 1200px are developers - you can reduce it by adding col-lg-2 the div
