I have a new Seagate external drive and within Disk Utility, I don't see any way to partition it - I'd like to partition into three parts. It comes configured as NTFS. Do I need to format it for MACOS - it looks from the Seagate help docs that I do not.

Read the directions from the apple knowledge base.  You can use disk utility to partition it, but you must erase the disk first.  The formatting comes after you partition.

I erased the disk and then could see the partition UI. Thanks, this is good info.
