I am getting the following error.  I am writing this in ASP. Using an Oracle Database.

ADODB.Recordset error '800a0bb9'

Arguments are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are in conflict with one another.

/preshift/Default.asp, line 20

I have the Code below and the error is coming up on this line of code

RSTodayNotes_General.open strSQL, MyConn

Anyone have any idea what I need to do.

Web Server - IIS 6.0/IE 8.0

Thank you,
Michael

Hello,

Here is the code from my global asa file.
This code works in PROD but not in DEV.
The only value that I changed was Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Data Source=VAWEBP;
to
Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Data Source=VAWEBD;

thanks, Michael

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=VBScript RUNAT=Server>
SUB Application_OnStart
Application("SessionCount") = 0
'Microsoft OLEDB Provider for Oracle
Application("ConnectionString") ="Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Data Source=VAWEBD;User ID=main;Password=main;DistribTX=0;"
End Sub

Sub Session_OnStart
Application.Lock
Application("SessionCount") = Application("SessionCount") + 1
Application.Unlock
Session.Timeout = 480
If Application("SessionCount") > 100 Then

Application.Lock
Application("SessionCount") = 0
Application.Unlock
Session.Timeout = 30   '120 minutes

' Here you would put any code you need to run
' do not surround the code with <% %> tags
' For example you might run a database query that checks for expired accounts

End if
End sub

Sub Session_OnEnd
Application.Lock
Application("SessionCount") = Application("SessionCount") - 1
Application.Unlock
End Sub
Sub Session_OnStart
     Session.LCID = 1033
End Sub
</SCRIPT>

you're setting MyConn to just a string (your connectionstring) and not a connection object, so try this out:

<%
set MyConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
MyConn.Open Application("ConnectionString")

Hello Big Monty,

Thanks for the help.  I have tried your code and I get this error message now.

Hello Big Monty,

Should I ask the DBA about TNS names between DEV and PROD?

This is the code on line 18 that is throwing the error message.

MyConn.Open Application("ConnectionString")

Thanks,

you could, it wouldn't hurt. But as a test, can you tell me if JUST this code works:

<%
set MyConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
MyConn.Open Application("ConnectionString")
strSQL="select * from readnew where trunc(startdate) = (select trunc(sysdate) from dual) and program1='General' and active = 'ACTIVE'"
Set RSTodayNotes_General = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
RSTodayNotes_General.open strSQL, MyConn
Response.End

Open in new window

do you get any errors?

ok i posted AFTER that last response of yours.

ya go ahead and check with your dba and make sure the names are correct. The error you are now getting is basically stating the connection string is incorrect

Hello Big Money,

The solution to the problem was to change this line of code:
Application("ConnectionString") ="Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Data Source=VAWEBD;User ID=xxx;Password=xxxx;DistribTX=0;"

Open in new window

To this line of code:
Application("ConnectionString") ="Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Data Source=VAWEBD.WORLD;User ID=xxxn;Password=xxxxxx;DistribTX=0;"

Open in new window

The data source was changed from Data Source=VAWEBD to
VAWEBD.WORLD.

Now I have new question for you that I will post in another thread.
How do  I make an if statement to allow for different environments?
Like:

Data Source=VAWEBD.WORLD (DEV)
Data Source=VAWEBT.WORLD (TEST)
Data Source=VAWEBP.WORLD (PROD)

and keep it in this one file?

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=VBScript RUNAT=Server>
SUB Application_OnStart
Application("SessionCount") = 0
'Microsoft OLEDB Provider for Oracle
Application("ConnectionString") ="Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Data Source=VAWEBD.WORLD;User ID=xxxx;Password=xxxx;DistribTX=0;"
End Sub

Sub Session_OnStart
Application.Lock
Application("SessionCount") = Application("SessionCount") + 1
Application.Unlock
Session.Timeout = 480
If Application("SessionCount") > 100 Then

Application.Lock
Application("SessionCount") = 0
Application.Unlock
Session.Timeout = 30   '120 minutes

' Here you would put any code you need to run
' do not surround the code with <% %> tags
' For example you might run a database query that checks for expired accounts

End if
End sub

Sub Session_OnEnd
Application.Lock
Application("SessionCount") = Application("SessionCount") - 1
Application.Unlock
End Sub
Sub Session_OnStart
     Session.LCID = 1033
End Sub
</SCRIPT>

Open in new window

Thanks, Michael
