Did you go to Device > Phone and listed the device where you want to add the existing extension and then click on it and then click on one of the button lines on the left side o the screen to add the number?

Is it a 7975? What is the 8th position used for?

You can't have more than 6 button items on a 7960. Go to the phone config page and click on the Modify Button Items, When the window pops up you will be able to move around the button items you wish to appear on the phone, and from the 7th on, those items will not show unless you attach a side car:

I used line 5 for the needed extension. It was for an office that we did not need any more.
do you have a good site for me to pick up on more CUCM administration?

Thanks!!!
