Hi,

In twenty fourteen these is 2 menus I can use.
For some reason the primary menu (horizontal) repeats itself below the secondary  menu (vertical).

I dont want the same menu repeated and I cant find where to remove it.

go to appearance - menu
set "top primary menu" to the nam of your menu"
then click on the "menu locations" tab
and set the "secondary menu in leftside bar"  to "--select a menu"
save menu.
OR
click on appearance - themes -then click on the  "customise" button of your theme
click on "navigation" on left hand side and select what menus go where as above. i.e De-select the secondary menu

Hi,
This is actually worse. I dont want to get rid of the side menu .

In effect the primary menu repeats itself vertically and I dont want this.
I want a top and side menu which I have but I also have the primary menu on the horizontal.
I have 3 menus and I just want 2.
