At a certain time of the day our internet seems slow. I need to check who is using most of the bandwidth. Are they downloading? Is there a virus on the PC? What i need is a Bandwidth monitoring software? Can someone suggest a software that i can use.

your firewall can probably log sessions including duration, byte count, and obviously src and dst ip/ports.

other than that many packet sniffer can do. nast and iptraf feature the possibility to increment byte counters without storing the traffic or even the captured packets headers. neither come with a nice gui or even enough functionnality to achieve your goal without a bit of work on your side.

there should be better tools, but the firewall is even much better

also note that slow internet can have other causes such as port contention (too many sessions), packet loss, misconfigured mtus... it does not have to be the overall bandwidth
