Networking Macs, Sharing

We have 3 Mac's setup in graphics department...
Rose
Amy
Lucy

All three have ibooks attached for data storage...
They have been set up so that all 3 could access each other...worked fine...

Now....I'll try to explain...

ROSE...CANNOT get into Amy or Lucy...
Amy...CAN get into Rose and Lucy...
Lucy...CAN get into Rose but CANNOT get into Amy...

So there is a "mish mash" of connecting/not connecting...

From Amy's Mac I removed Rose, but then could not add her...

Amy thinks the problems started around the time she updated the OS maybe a month ago...But is not sure...

I am NOT great working on Mac's...and I may need some instruction to follow your suggestions correctly...

Any ideas how to trouble shoot this are appreciated....

Any further info you may need...I will get it...

Thanks...

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Versions of OSX on each Mac would be helpful.

Rose's Mac is fine so focus on the other two.

How are you adding the other two users on each Mac?
Are you sharing USB drives attached to each mac to the other users?

Can you run the Repair Permissions tool on the hard drive and any shared external drives using the Disk Utility application on Amy and Lucy's Macs.

Here is what I've learned so far...

OS versions...
Rose is 10.9.2
Lucy is  10.6.8
Amy is   10.9.2

I ran Verify File Permissions on all 3 Mac's...no joy...
All 3 Macs had quite a few permission errors...

Lucy I think has HD prolems...runs very slow...and Finder > Applications > Utility...
After I went there the first time to run the Verity File Permissions...now when I go back
to Utility folder...it is empty....or let's say nothing appears in the folder...

From Rose's Mac....I can log in with my creds into our various servers etc....no problem...
Rose still cannot get into Amy or Lucy after Verify File Permissions...

From Roses Mac...Amy CANNOT log in with her creds and connect to Amy's Mac...

Rose says she has never been able to connect with either Amy or Lucy's Mac's...
So this has been going on for several months...

So...I'm thinking there is combination of issues...
I think Rose has permission issues...in addition to her Mac not being able to
connect to the other 2 Macs...

Any help appreciated...

What is being SHARED on Amy's mac??

Go to System Preferences
In the Sharing Preference on Amy's Mac ..
Under the OPTIONS button check that SMB and AFP sharing is enabled .. check that for Windows File Sharing you can see Rose and Lucy and that their names are checked to allow access.  If users called Rose and Lucy are not listed (you need to add them as users in the  Users & Groups Preferences on Amy's Mac ..

Check the box for "Allow guests to log ..." and also check the box that says "Allow guests to connect to shared folders"
Also use the + to add new users (Sharing Only - account type) for Rose and Lucy .. and set a password ideally the same as on their local mac.  The Account name should be identical to the one they use on their local mac.

Now go to Rose's computer and see can you connect

Thanks for the step by step...I'm learning  FAST...!!!

Amy's Mac...SMB was NOT turned on...
Rose is in File Sharing as read/write///but it will not accept any know pw's Rose has...
Not her logon nor her mail pw.....(we're trying every pw we can think of)

Allow guests to log on....that option was not is Sharing...could not find it...

At Rose's Mac...tried to connect and I get "connection failed"...I enter whatever passwords we can think of...Rose's email, logon pw etc...cannot connect...

Allowing Guests .. and adding new Users is in the 'Users & Groups" system preference pane ... and NOT the Sharing preference pane.  You need to change to the other pane to add users and enable guest access.

Well...I was expecting this to be more like Windows...just click on the name or group you want added....and it's not...

In the left panel only Amy's name showed up...

When I tried to add Rose's name....message said name was already used....or words to that effect...

I appreciate you help...

But I've gotta attend to some other issues for a while and do some more studying on this issue...

I might not add to this post any today....but I'll be back next week if I haven't solved it
otherwise...
