Internet Explorer 8 minimized

When I minimized my internet explorer 8 it shows it minimized with a pair of parenthesis ( ) and a number 2 in it.  After sitting a while the number will increase on its own to maybe a (4).  When you click on the number you would expect it to be opened 4 times but it is opened only once.  This machine is running XP Pro.

Have you looked in the process listing (CTRL + ALT + DEL then choose task monitor)?  Do you have more than one instance running?  Sometimes instances of browsers will run more than one time if they are running separate instances for a plugin (I don't recall whether IE8 does this, but IE11 sometimes does and Chrome definitely does).

There was only one instance in task manager of IE running.  I had her change her home page so that it was not MSN and that seems to have fixed it.

I had only one response and it did not fix the problem.  It seems that by my changing the home page the problem went away.
