hi experts,

I have two of these HP Compaq desktops and I started getting the same error on both of them and so I can't plug any device on the USB ports. this is the error:

Power Surge On Hub Port
A USB device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port.
For assistance please click here, so I do and just gives me the option to Reset which I do and it works fine for minutes and then I get this same error message.

what's going on all of a sudden?

maybe the hardware of the USB was overloaded, and the usb chip burned out.
i assume you rebooted the PC?
you can test if the usb works or not, when booted from a live Knoppix cd : http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=knoppix

if it does not work, you may use a PCI, or PCIe usb adapter
