directory services restore mode , password unknown how to get in, help

i have a customer who has a failed dc. it is the only dc for the domain.
i am attempting a bare metal recovery.
i am getting a blue screen saying that i need to login using directory services restore mode.

the DSRM password is unkown.

how can i reset it? can i blank it out?

can i use offline nt password?

any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

what is the current status are you able to restore windows  and able to see login screen ?

yes i am seeing the login screen . i got the blue screen saying i had to login to DSRM.

Try to reset the local admin (DSRM) password first.

After that start the system in DSRM mode and continue your task.

got into DSRM

ntds.dit was corrupted.

ran esentutl and repaired the db.

rebooted.

works.
