I have a cable internet connection that is supposed to be giving me 30 mbs download speeds and I am getting single digits.  Could this be the result of my wireless router or is there something else that could be slowing things down?  We have MediaCom.  Any information would be much appreciated.

Connect your computer directly to the cable modem and check the speed. You likely should see near 30 mbps. If so, then your router may not be keeping up.

My provider went to 20 mbps and I could only achieve 8 mpbs with my Cisco RV042 router. I had to replace it with a Cisco RV042G router and the speed came back. The G model offers higher NAT throughput and that did the job.
