Rolodex programs

We have an Intranet that services as a Rolodex and runs some reports. It was created with ASP.NET and Visual Studio.Net and calls the information from a SQL 2000 database. We were going to upgrade our SQL 2000 database to SQL 2012 but we are finding out it is quite involved with the coding and we cannot get a hold of our programmer.

We wanted to find out if there are popular Rolodex programs that might be able to replace this functionality? Any assistance offered would be greatly appreciated.

Can you define the functions your current program does and what you use, what you need?

Have you considered office365 and using online exchange?  That should do everything you need

We had not considered going down that route at this time. We run reports on Construction Permits, Client information retrieval such as name, address, phone number, ect and well as internal company information that an Intranet would run. Such as vacation times, ect.

Our current system is okay but we really need to upgrade our database as it is SQL 2000 and we are falling drastically behind. We have cost concerns as well as coding concerns upgrading as we are facing compatibility issues.

Are you or somebody in  your organization familiar with sql server?  If so, I would simply create a test environment  and start out first by upgrading from 2000 to 2008 http://blogs.technet.com/b/mdegre/archive/2009/07/21/migration-sql-server-2000-to-sql-server-2008.aspx  Since this is in a duplicated test environment, you are not touching your actual live database or files,  just copies.   The upgrade could be easier then you think.  

If that is too much for you, it would be best to consider hiring somebody to do this for you or look into an off the shelf product.   You may be able to do what you need using office365 where you keep your contacts in exchange and share files with sharepoint.  I am sure there are plenty of web based options for crm like https://www.salesforce.com or https://www.openerp.com/

I am somewhat familiar with SQL but we have not done a migration before. We are trying to get a hold of the programmer that did our initial coding but cannot reach them. Okay, thank you.
