A user reported to me yesterday that our Outlook recall feature is not working. I had a look and from what I could see everything was working fine from the little tests that I did, which was sending messages to a test account and recalling them back.
I explained to the user all the scenarios I know of, on how the recall would fail if the person or one of their Outlook rules opened the message before the message was recalled. And how in some other environments, gmail, yahoo etc it would fail as well and users who have smart phones etc.
I did some more tests last night just to be sure and noticed something interesting:
1. Sent test message to USER1 who has Outlook closed.
2. I recall the message.
3. USER1 opens outlook.
4. Recall fails and message is not removed from USER1’s mailbox.
So it seems if the user has Outlook closed the recalled message will fail.
I’ve been looking around the net for some proof on this scenario and can’t find anything. So I am wondering if there is something I can do on exchange to fix the problem.
We have an exchange 2010 environment with all users using outlook 2010.
