I upgraded to Acrobat XI Pro and now the ability to extend the Typewriter function is missing. I know I can add text using the Content Editing "Add Text" Option but I want to extend the Typewriter functions to standard Acrobat reader users like I could before in Acrobat 9.  Do you know if this is possible?

I think I found it.
File -> Save As Other -> Reader Extended PDF -> Enable Adding Text in PDF's (that are not PDF forms)

Correct. There is one more problem: there is no typewriter tool anymore - or to be more specific, no tool with that name: in Reader or Acrobat XI you would instead use Sign>Add Text

The best solution that I've found to replace the No Typewriter tool in Adobe Acrobat XI is:

View > Fill and Sign > Fill and Sign Tools > Add Text

Seems to work just like the typewriter
