Detatch and attach primary HDD to new Laptop

Hi,
I have HP elitebook 8440 notebook. This laptop have started giving me some problems so I wish to replace it with HP elitebook 87XX series.

The only issue I have is replicating all software,OS installed on 8440. I have hundreds of software installed. Many have licensed keys and I don't have copies of keys with me.

HP elitebook 8440 and 87XX have similar configuration .

Do you think I can remove HDD and plug that in at 87XX laptop to get it working?

Thanks

Windows 7 is very "forgiving" with hardware changes, so it's fairly likely it would adapt okay to the new laptop.   If it "Knows" about the network adapter it would likely find the new drivers it needed via Windows Update.   If not, you'd have to download and install the updated network adapter before that could happen -- but in either case the process would be fairly simple.

Windows licensing wouldn't likely be an issue; since they're both HP systems (thus the OS is keyed to the BIOS and doesn't require specific activation).    Your other apps may -- depending on the activation protocols they use -- require re-activation, but whether or not that would be an issue is impossible to say without simply trying it.

It certainly won't hurt anything to try it.
