To change the account or a password?

In general, accounts which are used as service accounts should be managed via Sharepoint Central Administration. If you want to change an account for a sharepoint service, add the new account to the managed service accounts (Security - Configure managed accounts), there you add a new servie account and set the password and then change the associated account in the service account settings (Security - Configure service accounts).

If you change only the password, change the password in Active directory and then change the password also in Sharepoint Central Admin - managed service accounts.  Even there you can change the password in AD, if you have permissions.

Dependend from the account, which has changed, you may check the service itself, if there is to change something. If you change a Crawl or Search account or the Farm Admin, then you may check under

Central Administration - Manage Web Applications - Click on the Web Applucation - User Policy

if ou have to change also permissions there.

All changes you make in sharepoint are usually reflected to the associated services. If you change the account directly in windows servies, sharepoint may possibly not get aware of this as sharepoint stores everything in its own databases.
