AD Replication Problem

This client workstations keep losing trust to their domain. We added a few new workstations and a few are the ones having the problem.

There is 2 DC’s. I was looking at the primary DC and was confused on why the new computer was not showing up on OU.

When I checked the secondary I can see the new computers I added in the OU. The secondary DC is not replicating with the PDC with the changes in the OU. I moved the Computers to the correct OU (which hopefully solved the trust problem), but now I need to fix this replication problem.

SFVDC01 – DC1 – Server 2008 R2 - This should be primary
SFDC02 – DC2 – Server 2003 - This should be secondary, has latest computers listed

Both are receiving the same replication errors. See errors below..

Computer: SFVDC01.saporito.local
Description:
This is the replication status for the following directory partition on this directory server.

Directory partition:
DC=saporito,DC=local

This directory server has not recently received replication information from a number of directory servers. The count of directory servers is shown, divided into the following intervals.

More than 24 hours:
1
More than a week:
1
More than one month:
1
More than two months:
0
More than a tombstone lifetime:
0
Tombstone lifetime (days):
180

Directory servers that do not replicate in a timely manner may encounter errors. They may miss password changes and be unable to authenticate. A DC that has not replicated in a tombstone lifetime may have missed the deletion of some objects, and may be automatically blocked from future replication until it is reconciled.

To identify the directory servers by name, use the dcdiag.exe tool.
You can also use the support tool repadmin.exe to display the replication latencies of the directory servers. The command is "repadmin /showvector /latency <partition-dn>".

Computer: SFVDC01.saporito.local
Description:

This server is the owner of the following FSMO role, but does not consider it valid. For the partition which contains the FSMO, this server has not replicated successfully with any of its partners since this server has been restarted. Replication errors are preventing validation of this role.

Operations which require contacting a FSMO operation master will fail until this condition is corrected.

FSMO Role: CN=RID Manager$,CN=System,DC=saporito,DC=local

User Action:

1. Initial synchronization is the first early replications done by a system as it is starting. A failure to initially synchronize may explain why a FSMO role cannot be validated. This process is explained in KB article 305476.
2. This server has one or more replication partners, and replication is failing for all of these partners. Use the command repadmin /showrepl to display the replication errors. Correct the error in question. For example there maybe problems with IP connectivity, DNS name resolution, or security authentication that are preventing successful replication.
3. In the rare event that all replication partners being down is an expected occurance, perhaps because of maintenance or a disaster recovery, you can force the role to be validated. This can be done by using NTDSUTIL.EXE to seize the role to the same server. This may be done using the steps provided in KB articles 255504 and 324801 on http://support.microsoft.com.

The following operations may be impacted:
Schema: You will no longer be able to modify the schema for this forest.
Domain Naming: You will no longer be able to add or remove domains from this forest.
PDC: You will no longer be able to perform primary domain controller operations, such as Group Policy updates and password resets for non-Active Directory Domain Services accounts.
RID: You will not be able to allocation new security identifiers for new user accounts, computer accounts or security groups.
Infrastructure: Cross-domain name references, such as universal group memberships, will not be updated properly if their target object is moved or renamed.

Attached is repadmin /options for PDC01.

DC02 (which is Server 2k3) failed to run the command since it can't recognize it. I'm downloading/install server tools now.

The repadmin command does not work on Server 2003 (DC2). It's missing arguments. See screenshot...

I just did

repadmin /options SFVDC01 -DISABLE_INBOUND_REPL
repadmin /options SFVDC01 -DISABLE_OUTBOUND_REPL

and now it looks as though PDC01 is now replicating with DC02. But when I remove an object from DC02, it does not replicate to PDC01.

Hi,

Take the full backup of your windows 2008 and Try this..

#1
Try to access the shares by using \\saporito.local and see if you are able to see the sysvol share. if not then follow the below url and enable the share.

Set the SysvolReady Flag registry value to "0" and then back to "1" in the registry.

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate the following subkey in Registry Editor:

 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters]

In the details pane, right-click SysvolReady Flag, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0 and then click OK.
Again in the details pane, right-click SysvolReady Flag, and then click
Modify.  In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

Then run NET SHARE and see if the SYSVOL and NETLOGON share is present.

##2
if sysvol share is present then try the authoritative restore of server by playing with registry.

Enable Loose Replication Consistency

To enable Loose Replication Consistency, follow these steps on the domain controller 2003 that reports the errors messages. Locate and click the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters

2.Click Add Value on the Edit menu.
3.Add the following value:
Value Name: Strict Replication Consistency
 Data type: REG_DWORD
Value data: If the value is 1, change it to 0.

Sorry, after doing my changes it actually DOES replicate both ways. It just took a few minutes.

Should I still make your registry changes suggested above?
