Galaxy S4 - Android not getting updated

I own a Samsung Galaxy S4 and so does my colleague who sits next to me. I observed that his Android Version has been updated to 4.4 very recently. The same is not happening on my mobile even after trying a manual update on a high-speed Wi-Fi connection. Is anyone else facing something similar? Any possible solutions?

Most updates are bound to your carrier, hence I bet your carrier is different than from your colleague's?
Delays happen when a carrier wants to tinker with their Android version (different splash screens, adding their own apps), or they want to do more rigorous tests before rolling out.
Also, sometimes, you will only get the update if you connect your phone to your computer and let KIES (Samsung's program for your phone) check for firmware.

My device is not bound to any carrier. I can use a SIM card belonging to any operator. I probably need to try KIES. But I am unable to understand why the other person's phone is getting updated and not mine.

Sorry for the confusion. What you said is what I meant. Your colleague's phone was probably bought as an inclusion to his carrier subscription, while yours was bought separately?
Or are there any clues your phone was imported from another country?

In the place I stay in, no one really goes for carrier subscription (including my colleague). Normally we buy the phone off the shelf from the store and insert the SIM of our choice. Both the phones were purchased within the country, with different dealers and some 4 months apart (mine is older). Not sure if the country of manufacture is the same for both the phones. I see most phones are either manufactured either in China, Malaysia or other surrounding countries.

Thanks for your suggestions and time. My phone updated itself yesterday. Am not sure about the reason for the delay.
