Why is 7-Zip so slow in Windows 8.1?

I use both a Dell Desktop and a recently-acquired Lenovo Thinkpad P400. Every week, I download a couple of zipped files which are each about 153 KB.

The Del, running Windows XP Pro,l unzips the contents quickly and easily. The Lenovo, running Windows 8.1, unzips the files very slowly.

Can anyone explain why this happens AND, more importantly, how to rectify the situation? I would gladly change to another unzip program IF it is indeed faster. I would like a faster unzip utility, as I'll be doing this regularly on the road away from home and won't have the desktop with me, of course.
