Hi,

I am testing a child theme on twenty fourteen. The child theme picks up but wordpress wont display properly now  as all the styling is gone.
The child theme just contains the below which should have no effect on the wordpress default of twenty fourteen

/*
 Theme Name:     myChild Theme
 Theme URI:      https://wordpress.org/themes/twentyfourteen
 Description:    kjh
 Author:         jklj
 Author URI:     http://127.0.0.1/wordpress/
 Template:      twentyfourteen
 Version:        1.0.0
*/

@import url("../twentyfourteen-child/style.css");

/* =Theme customization starts here
------------------------------------------------------- */

Check if the file "../twentyfourteen-child/style.css" exists.

If it's in the same folder as twentyfourteen (presumably ../twentyfourteen/) it's not in ../twentyfourteen-child/style.css

The folder structure should be something like this
/public_html/wp-content/themes
/public_html/wp-content/themes/twentyfourteen
/public_html/wp-content/themes/twentyfourteen-child
etc

In your new folder (twentyfourteen-child) which should be empty, you create a style.css file where you import the styles from the mother style.

So instead of @import url("../twentyfourteen-child/style.css"); - which creates a circular reference
you use @import url("../twentyfourteen/style.css");

And then override the declarations as needed.

Dan
