Does VIPRE work with SBS2008?

I just installed VIPRE Internet Security on one of the workstations in our SBS2008 domain. After the installation finished the workstation is no longer reachable from Remote Web Workplace, or from Remote Desktop Connection within the LAN, Yet the workstation is up and can be logged into. Does anyone have an idea why? Is VIPRE not compatible with SBS2008?

The issue is not with SBS2008.  I'm not very familiar with Vipre specifically, but this sounds pretty common.  There are settings in the firewall part of Vipre that need to be opened up to allow the remote access.

Even I'm not familiar with Vipre but the issue is common as CompProbSolv said, your Vipre is blocking the RDP inbound this can be rectified please have a look at this link

OK, thanks. I'll check out that link this afternoon from the user's workstation (obviously can't do it remotely now!)

Not familiar with VIPRE, eh? It's the currently top-rated anti-virus software, which is why I'm trying it:

Bizarre - VIPRE isn't even on their top 20 list! Though Bitdefender is 2nd on the pcantivirus site and first on the top10 site. Well, probably no going back now since many copies of the VIPRE have been bought. However, if VIPRE is going to lock out remote connection during installation we may reconsider.

Well, we're probably going to stick with VIPRE for now. We'll check out these review sites after this license expires and possibly go with something different. If VIPRE proves to be a problem in the short term, I'll switch immediately.

I went into the workstation in question and turned off the VIPRE firewall. That was blocking RDC and RWW and also blocking the domain server from accessing or updating the workstation. It will certainly be a pain to have to go to each workstation individually after installing to turn off the VIPRE firewall. That right there might be enough to get me to switch.

Meanwhile, I opened a ticket with VIPRE about this. Here is their response which I will try later this evening:

"As indicated on your email, you wish to disable the firewall to prevent the RWW session from terminating.

I am afraid that this option is not available as the installation procedure is continuous and automated.

However, there is a point that a reboot is needed to complete the installation. As a workaround, I recommend disabling the GFI NDIS IM Filter before you reboot.

Locate the filter from the Network Connections section of Windows. Select Properties for either WLAN or LAN connection, then disable the GFI NDIS IM Filter, and reboot the computer. This disables the firewall before VIPRE is completely installed after the reboot."

Here's the solution, from VIPRE's email response to my problem (very good customer service, as advertised in the top 10 site), plus additional details I figured out:

When I got the request to reboot after the VIPRE installation, I selected the "restart later" option. I then went into control panel > Network and Sharing Center > Local Area Connection > properties, and unchecked "GFI Software Firewall NDIS IM Filter", per VIPRE's delp desk instructions.

I was a bit surprised that as soon as I did so I lost my remote connection. However, I was able to reconnect and close the Network and Sharing Center dialog.

I then restarted the system and kept my fingers crossed. I was, in fact, able to reconnect to the workstation a few minutes later. Yeah!

I then went into Vipre and disabled the firewall (it was set as enabled). VIPRE didn't
mention this part.

Just in case, I then restarted the system again. Again, I was able to reconnect.

I then re-enabled the "GFI Software Firewall NDIS IM Filter" and again immediately lost remote connection. However, I was able to immediately reconnect. The VIPRE firewall remained off and the Windows domain managed firewall is up.

Problem solved!
