Hi,
We have 1,000's of InDesign Files in 100's of directories that we need to search. We have an EPS file of a CEO's Signature that is used (Linked and Embedded) in some of those InDesign files. Is there a way to search (without opening) those files for all of them that are using that EPS?
If not I can only thing that we will just have to open each one and see if the EPS is used in it and replace as needed. It would be nice to be able to either start with a list of files that are known or maybe even do a programmatic replacement of the EPS in mass.

With the indd files that have the signature linked you do not have to search or open them.
Just modify/replace the eps file and on open Indesign will ask you if you want to update the link.

With the embedded file, you can use the script from here: http://indisnip.wordpress.com/2011/02/21/easy-way-to-unembed-all-embedded-links/ to unembed all links from your indesign documents, then replace the eps.

Dan,
So thinking out loud here...

I have an EPS file with the name xyz.eps. If I put a new updated xyz.eps out there every file that i open i will be prompted to update the link. That sounds good. But for the embedded ones. I am not much of a script person. Is there a way to write that script so it only looks for the specific embedded EPS file?
Also what language is the script in? VB?
Thanks,
Kevin

That's JS.

I don't know how Indesign names embedded files. It might be that the same embedded eps is referenced differently in different indd files, so looking for a particular eps might be tricky.
