I have a windows 2008 clustered server  which presents a clustered file server (server1) for our users.  A "apps" shared folder is created on server1.

On an application server, we need it to use a different server name to map to the server1's share.  For example, \\server2\apps will point to \\server1\apps.

I change the host file of the application server (server1's IP     server2) but it I still cannot map \\server2\apps.

Is there a work around?

You can use DFS, and publish a folder on different locations using a namespace.
