HP DL580 G4 Which Disk to Assign to Raid 1 and Raid 5 DL580 G4 8 Disk
Which disk should I select on a 8 disk server for RAID 1 and again for RAID 5? Should RAID 1 disk be on different channels? Any other info would be great?
Or you might want to consider including the "spare" in a RAID-6 RAIDset

I considered RAID 6, but just trying to keep everything consistant. All the other phyical servers are set to RAID 1 & RAID 5. But none are consistant.

No better solution. Did further research.
first 2 disks for raid 1 and so on for raid 5
your next 3 (at a minimum) will make your raid 5; add more for more space
if i were building that configuration i would put 5 disks in the raid 5 and leave that last drive as a global hot spare
all the drives in each container have to be the same speed and size
if i had 2 300gb drives i would put in the first 2 slots for the raid 1 array and if i had the other 6 as 900gb drives then build as raid 5 then the last one a hot spare that can accommodate a failure in either array
unless there is some serious i/o need that would benefit from having 2 controllers, usually it is just fine with multiple raid arrays on the same controller
