Good day all,

At one of my clients I'm getting a intermitted backup problem. Somedays the backup completes but most of the time it doesn't, and in the event viewer I see the following error
relating to the backup failing:

Backup started at '12/03/2014 20:00:20' failed as Volume Shadow copy operation failed for backup volumes with following error code '2155348001'. Please rerun backup once issue is resolved.

Also in the event viewer I see a lot of the following errors relating to 'Windows sharepoint services 3':

The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPConfigurationRefreshJobDefinition (ID 95815e25-c418-41f6-8b26-311bf86f08ee) threw an exception. More information is included below.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

I don't know if it is maybe related to each other.

Hi,

this error code indicates a VSS snapshot timeout.  See here: http://blogs.technet.com/b/asiasupp/archive/2011/08/01/windows-server-backup-failed-to-backup-with-error-0x81000101.aspx

Also, please run 'vssadmin list writers' and see what the status of the VSS components is.
