Web-based approval workflow in SP13

My set-up: SharePoint 2013, SPD2013, Infopath Designer 2013. I also have Visio 2013 but haven't used it that much. I have only been working with these programs for about 5 months, and teaching myself.
I am creating an approval workflow for a basic form in order to understand how workflows operate and the best way to set up workflows for my company. Basically, what I want to be able to do is set up a form to be approved by a manager and then alert a different individual that the form has been approved and is ready to be processed. I have the workflow set up and it is working correctly inside of SharePoint.
What I want to be able to do is have an email sent to the approver alerting them there is a document ready to be approved. Inside the email body would be a link to go view the form. When the link is selected the form with the approve/reject options are available.
However, when the user clicks on the link to the form they are shown the actual form that was submitted with only a submit button. If the submit button is pressed at this level a new document is submitted to the form library. Is this possible?
I do not want my company employees to have to go to the background of our SharePoint website to approve our forms. I want them to be able to get to it through their email in order to be more user-friendly. But I do want the forms to be able to be stored in the background of our SharePoint website.
I am getting really frustrated with this. Is it as simple as creating different views of the form in Infopath and setting up rules for which view is shown? If so, I can't get that to work either. I am setting up rules that seem like they should work for this approval process but the views are not changing.
