I have installed BIDS 2012 which I have used to create my SSIS packages.  I would like to deploy them to SQL Server 2008.  Can this be done?

You can't.  You must use the BIDS 2008 to develop packages for SSIS 2008.

Please see:

Use the SQL Server 2005 version of Business Intelligence Development Studio to develop and maintain packages that are based on SQL Server 2005 Integration Services (SSIS).

Use the SQL Server 2008 version of Business Intelligence Development Studio to develop and maintain packages that are based on SQL Server 2008 Integration Services (SSIS)

Use SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 to develop and maintain packages that are based on SQL Server 2012 Integration Services (SSIS).
