Empty Start Menu folders

I loaded Visual studio successfully. However, how come the start menu folder for Visual Studio is empty. I have seen this happen to different versions of Visual Studio lately.

( 2008, 2010 and 2012). What could be causing the empty folder on the start menu?
How can I fix it?

Start menu. The menu that pops up when you hit the start button. You  view all programs and see the applications you can start.

I had Microsoft repair privileges on some Microsoft folders.
