Windows server 2008 client logon error "No Logon Server Available"

I'm having problems with clients trying to login to the workstation that's running OpenVPN. When they attempt to login using their active directory credentials they receive the error "no logon servers available".
I'm not highly skilled at OpenVPN so here are my questions;

If the client has to be logged in to invoke the VPN which enable them to connect to the server, how are the login credentials authenticated without VPN running

Would having a mapping to a server which is reconnecting be possibly causing this problem, if so, how would this be accomplished otherwise? Can a script run automatically after VPN connectivity is established?

As always, thank you experts for your help.

set your clients to run vpn at logon

At the login screen, click the Switch User button. A Network logon button will appear in the lower right corner next to the power button. Click this button and you will be presented with buttons for available network connections. Click on the button for your VPN. Enter your Username and Password, and click the arrow button (or press Enter).

Thanks smithanderson for the quick response however the only options from the button is restart, shutdown and sleep.

OpenVPN Access Client service is running automatically however after login is complete user has to invoke the connection profile.

What are your thoughts regarding the "No Logon Server Available message"
