Default Mail Problem with Picasa

I am having trouble sending pictures through Picasa's email option.  Picasa can't send pictures through AOL email because Picasa does not know the default mail client.  Attached you will find the error I get when I open Picasa and click the little 'envelope' to compose an email.

Let me know what else you need from me on my end.

Thanks in advance!

PS It is imperative the pictures are not moved around or exported in any way because all the pictures are already organized.  I hope I don't have to re-install Picasa...

It's because you have to change your e-mail settings in Picasa like so:
Picasa has an Email Button!
...Take a look down at the bottom of PIcasa’s screen and you’ll see the Email button.  All you have to do is select the picture(s) you want to email, click the email button, then compose your email and send it... When you click the Email button... images will be sent in their edited form and resized according to your settings.  What settings?  The ones you’ll find at Tools->Options->Email (Windows) and Picasa->Preferences->Email (Mac.) @ picasageeks.com:

The main email client is AOL.  I right click a picture on the desktop and send to > mail and I get the same error as in the photo I attached in the OP.

Any other suggestions?
The thing is windows 7 only has two options for emails clients Outlook and windows live mail. Windows Live Mail was not included so had to be downloaded.
The right click option is used for default emails programs with in windows..
Any 3rd party email clients woudl need to be configured through your windows live or Outlook email host in order to use it within them.
Which is your default email client in windows?

There has been a few updates since last year and now Skydrive is One Drive, you need a Microsoft Account to access your Hotmail now called Outlook.
Maybe you need to start updating everything?
Picasa does not have your images rather it keeps/monitors and updates all your photos images loaded in Picasa's exclusive folder within your images and photos folder on your HDD
If you rightclick one of these images in there does it then send to the right mail client?
If there has been too many updates you may need to use/open Picasa's email client then browse for the photo and attach it.
if it helps

Thank you for your response.

How do I set a default email client through Windows 7?  The person I am trying to help only uses their AOL email address for all communication and they just organized all their pictures in Picasa.

Update everything?  Picasa is up to date.  Windows is up to date.

I was going to do a restore from when the user first started having AOL probs in December.  We were trying to get the registry right for AOL to be set as default mail client.  Right now, it isn’t default and I can’t figure out how to make it so.  Picasa can’t send pictures thru AOL email because Picasa doesn’t know what the default mail client is.

Take a look at the registry per this doc and let me know what I need to do in order to accomplish the aforementioned.  I don’t think there is any other way except to do a restore so the registry will be the same as before I removed AOL.  Let me know if there is anything else I should try to do.

Thanks again!

AOL file.
Hi Wooky Jack now I am a little confused,
please explain and confirm that you have not uninstalled AOL>

If AOL is still installed otherwise there is no need to tinker with regestry if uninstalled and may well be the problem.
Does your friend have the AOL toolbar? and AOL still installed?
Try this first as I just dont know what to offer if you have removed AOL, or until I hear from you. I did source this to make Picasa see AOL as default
set AOL as the default when using AOL 9.0 Security Edition SE:
Click Settings on the AOL toolbar > click the "Index" tab > click the "AOL as default link" under the "A column" then click on the "OK" button.

as usual, your incites into media apps impress me! I'm no slouch, but you're way ahead of me :-)

thanks a lot.
Thankyou!!  paulsauve, I was editing my comment lol
I have a large audience of friends and family who tell others with the can you help I'm having a problem.
I learn lot and get to test out lots of interesting things ;)
If I may share by far the best was I was tasked with was installing a Virtual assistant for someone who was illiterate!!
They posted/mailed their Laptop to me which was pretty cool..
I did try to tell them you still need to be able to read and write as this technology is still growing.
I learnt all about Dragon NaturallySpeaking..with that one. I was successful getting it to work.
It's called Guile 3D Virtual Dennise if ever you are interested in a desktop speaking companion who will read/compose and send your emails and answer your questions, she /he evolves slowly learns as they go..
It's not that expensive at all when you just get the normal version
I would never use AOL because of the tracking cookies.

I was going to say  when editing my comment
that to remove AOL is not that simple as it gets into everything on the computer has many services and the user needs to shutdown AOL before removing it

Thankyou paulsauve interesting
hmm for free they seem up to the task. will look in to testing should be fun see if I can get them talk together lol!!
Yes this version included the speech technology but I had a lot of trouble getting that to function, instead I just installed Dragon NaturallySpeaking C++ and that solved it. It was a lot of work lots settings.
Having tried Guile 3D I find it visually superior has a lot of features such if I want to visit another city she will post the latest news and pictures hooking into Google earth..
I do have a lot of snaps of all I did and since my friend was illiterate I had to explain in pcitures..  but in fairness to Wooky Jack
This is the interface, her avatar sits on the desktop.
DennisemenuesThis back a couple of years and she has improved a lot, learnt to speak .. She even tells jokes which was hilarious  and I see is the same price for Platinum
Youtube /and I have and use one of these hand held scans

I'd be interested to see if the free version can hear...
Yes she does hear you, you'd probably need to use a headset with mic. Logitech?
Not USB as well I had problems with USB and DragonNaturally Speaking had to buy new with audio jacks
The software should have a wizard to start a microphone test once done.and yes this video has.

Apologies in advance for the delay.  Just so I can give you a bit more background on the situation I figured it may help:

I am remotely connecting to a client's PC trying to resolve this.  Their internet connection is intermittent and they live out of state.  So me trying to assist them in a timely manner is just as sporadic.

Hopefully I will be able to connect soon or this Sunday.  (I am in a wedding Saturday.)

Thanks for your patience, Experts!

AOL is not uninstalled.  I have set Picasa and AOL.exe (the program) to be the default email address.  It still will not work.

I believe it has to do with Windows.  I tried sending an item straight from the desktop in an email and the same error popped for having no default email client set.  So this is not a picasa issue apparently.

What should I do as far as Windows 7 is concerned in setting the default email client to their AOL address?
Wooky JackAuthor Commented:
I solved the issue.  I just re-installed AOL 9.7 and that set default email client in Windows and for Picasa.  Pictures are now sending from Picasa through the AOL program.

The problem I think was the user said they had tried re-installing, but I don't think they ever did.  lol.  I know right?

Thanks for your efforts!
