Hello,

I am trying to seek a new venture. I already work in the Travel/Cruises industry. I am actually a sys admin for a software developer who is contracted with the majority of cruise industry. What a blessing this has been for myself and my career. So in short, I work on cruise ship infrastructurse but generally don't deal too much with the C band room or the Satellite equipment. I generally deal with the networking equipment all the way to the core switch of the ship.

Any how, I've had the opportunity presented to me a few times where I was asked if I can install Satellites and other telecommunication technology on private yachts. My answer usually is that in my field, this is commonly outsourced and big providers like MTN handle this.

However, as of now I want to start learning the technology in order to support private yacht SAT installation for internet, voice, etc

Where would be a good place for me to start learning the technology needed to install equipment which would give these Yachts internet access? Or where to become certified so I can become a consultants for these Yachting folks.

Thx in advanced

It looks like this guy and his company have already accomplished a good clientele. I wonder if he would shed some light on the industry technology with me..

They are not cheap, but a used unit from eBay would likely be the best learning tool.

And there are plenty of forums to troll through.
