Exchange - emails not being delivered for some mailboxes

hi guys,

We're seeing some mailboxes getting the following returned to the senders:

address@contoso.com

The server has tried to deliver this message, without success, and has stopped trying. Please try sending this message again. If the problem continues, contact your helpdesk.


Diagnostic information for administrators:
Generating server: FCCAMEXCH02.uk.fc.local


It's happening to few random mailboxes and I can't understand why..how. Before restarting anything, are there any diagnostic checks that you would make?

This may indicate that your email server is having trouble contacting the third party email servers. This could be DNS related, internet routing issues, etc.

As for diagnostics pick one of the problematic emails, find out the MX records for that domain and try a telnet test to the third party server from your email server, this will indicate if there is a connection possible between the servers.
