Clustering in Hyper-v 2008/2012

We have Hyper-V installed on windows server 2008 R2 as well as 2012 server. Now we are planning for clustering to avail High availability of VMs.

Can someone share us prerequisites and action plan for implementation of clusters in Hyper-V.

for starters, you mentioned you had both 2008 and 2012. if you are going to cluster two Hyper-V servers together, you will need to be on the same O/S on all nodes. you can not mix server versions.

you will also need some kind of common storage between the nodes. 2012 lets you use SMB shares due to SMB 3.0, but the most common would be some sort of SAN between your hosts, either via SAS direct connect or iSCSI.

It is recommended you run the failover cluster wizard before you cluster the two machines together. it will tell you what you need to know. you just add the machines you want to cluster together and it will test both nodes as well as storage and networking
