You need to hook up a KVM switch.  You connect both PC's to it and one Monitor, one Keyboard & one Mouse. I use an Iogear 8 port at work and 4 port KVM switches at other clients locations. they work great.

Also you could just get two KVMs. One of them controls one monitor + your keyboard/mouse, the other one controls the other monitor only.

That doubles the price. No idea what his budget is. Dual Monitor KVM switches are already a premium item.

Their are probably additional options and features on them.  They are also proved for additional ports and cables they come with.

If you want one keyboard and mouse to control two pc with one monitor  connected to each computer.  Then you just leave the monitors plugged into the respective pc and just use the kvm switch to swap the same keyboard and mouse between pc to pc, you don't need to plug the monitor into the kvm switch.
If you are actually talking about swapping the dual monitor, keyboard and mouse between the two pcs then you will need a kvm switch that will support dual monitors as mentioned by TG-TIS.

Correct web tracker..I am just interested in controlling 2 independent monitors with 1 keyboard and mouse...I assume when you say dual monitors this means swapping the picture from one monitor to the other ?  If so I am not looking to do this..

I have 2 PCs..1 is for work, the other is my home PC so it will be helpful to have a tool whereby I am not constantly switching between 2 keyboards..

If that is the case all you need is one kvm switch, don't even bother plugging in the monitor into the kvm switch. This is quite simple, and just a matter of plugging in the keyboard and mouse into the kvm switch then plugging in a usb cable into the switch from computer 1, and plugging in the usb cable into the switch from Computer 2. If you buy a ps2 kvm switch you will have to plug the two ps2 cables one plugged into the keyboard port of the computer, and one cable plugged into the mouse port of the kvm switch the other end of the cable goes into  ps2 keyboard computer 1, The mouse cable will go into the mouse ps2 mouse port of computer 1, the same thing for computer 2.

Like I said if you are not swapping monitors then you do not need to plug the monitors into the kvm switch.

One issue with this is you may not know for sure whether the kvm switch has successfully swapped to the second computer until you start moving the mouse or start typing. Unless the indicator on the kvm switch is lit going back and forth from computers one and two.
