One of your user had their workstation reimaged recently and is now unable to open Office 2010 document in Sharepoint 2010. I compared my workstation which is working to their and noticed the "SharePoint OpenDocuments class" was missing am I correct that this add-on gets installed when Office 2010 is installed and the only way to fix it is by running a repair?

Yes. Look at the users add-ons to see if the add-on is listed but not enabled. If so then enable it. If not then do a repair of office.
Control panel - programs and features - office - change - repair
