sbs 2011 - 503 HTTP company web will not publish internally or externally

SBS 2011 Standard Edition / Fully updated / All required ports open - 25,987,443 to IP of server.

Until about a week ago my client was able to remotely log into her PC via SBS remote. Then it quit. I took a look at the event logs and two jumped out me - 7031, 7024. Additionally I could not get "companyweb" to publish withing the network using http://compnayweb

All services are started as far a I can tell.
Anyone have a fix for this?

Regards,

Frank

Most likely that server has dot net 4.51 installed.  Two possible solutions... one is to limit exchange memory to free up RAM, as that is the cause.

http://www.thirdtier.net/2012/01/solving-the-unresponsive-exchange-sbs-server-problem/

the other is to modify the RWA web config file per:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2014/01/13/troubleshooting-an-unexpected-error-occurred-message-when-using-remote-web-access-to-connect-to-computers.aspx

Hi Larry,

I went into "Installed Updates" and did not see .Net Framework 4.5.1 listed. Could it be under another name?

Also the client is not using Exchange at all for mail. I use it just for the reports only.

No, only in installed updates.  If that was not it, please look into Jeffrey Kane's suggestions.

Update,

I found password sync problems in SharePoint. Reset for accounts as per link: http://www.thirdtier.net/2011/07/when-sharepoint-companyweb-503s-on-you-heres-how-to-fix-it/

Now I can browse both OWA and Remote sites from within the network but cannot access them from outside. I was able to log into both sites.

Also cannot browse "CompanyWeb" (http 503 error) from within the network. It shows online in the SBS console

Just did a open port check from "portcheckers.com" for ports 443, 987 and 25. All came back as open.  Also double checked that the Server Lan IP was correct in the 'Port Forwarding" section of the router.

have you recently installed any SharePoint updates?  http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2011/05/24/you-must-manually-run-psconfig-after-installing-sharepoint-2010-patches.aspx

Do you also have the SBS 2011 BPA installed and updated to 1.5?

Hi Chris,

I looked into Windows | Applications logs - No event ID 2137 logged. I did run the PSConfig command when I installed the server after the initial batch of updates were installed. It ran successfully.

Also looked in the system logs and am getting events 7024 and 7031 every few minutes.

Microsoft Baseline Configuration Analyzer 2.0 is installed. Just did a scan and had "0" noncompliant items.

When you run the baseline analyzer does it say that you are running 1.5?  If you haven't updated, seeing 0 non-compliant is common

Hi Chris,

I ran the "Fix My Network" the only error was " Internet Port Mapping is Missing> I logged into the router and double checked the port mappings 25 443 987 - to Lan IP of server. They do not use VPN and I did not open port 80.

I have attached the results of the BPA scan.

Fix them all, especially the journal wrap.  If you just expand each one it will give directions, or you can look in the event logs and track them from there.

Hi,

All errors identified in the BPA scan have been corrected. Still cannot log into server via remote.

Do you have access to another router (even a consumer grade) just for the test
Configure LAN and WAN IPs to match current addresses
Configure 443 and 987 to forward to the server IP
Then re-run the Connect to the internet wizard - any errors?
Then re-run the Setup my internet address wizard.
If you are using a trusted third party cert, you may have to run that wizard again

Just to be clear...you have not tried PSCONFIG since this company web issue started?   if not, I would run it again.

Hi Chris,

I just changed the router last week. The old one finally quit powering itself up.
I double checked the LAN and Wan IP's - I am getting SBS reports via e-mail from the server.
Double checked ports 443, 25 and 987 are forwarded to the LAN IP of the server - 192.168.2.2
Re-ran "Connect to the Internet wizard" - 1 error - could not configure router ports
Re-ran "Setup my internet address wizard - No errors
We have a "GoDaddy Cert. Re-ran wizard and selected the correct cert.

Re-ran "PSCONFIG - Attached is the error

Also can no longer browse the "remote site" from within the network - Attached is the error screen shot.

When you try running the PSCONFIG   are you doing it from an elevated command prompt  (run as administrator)?

Yes, I am right clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator". I just ran it again and the same error appeared.

I'm not sure what's going on with SharePoint...but I have a suspicion regarding the Remote Web Workplace

Are the computers attempting to make the remote connection by chance running IE11??

Hi Chris ,

The PC's except for 1 (Windows 7) are all running XP Pro. I believe that they only go to IE 8.0.

I'd be curious
can the server ping itself by name and IP?

can you run IPconfig /all on the server copy the results here?

I was able to ping both the internal IP and the servername.

Connection-specific DNS Suffix Search List :
                                       swann.local

Why do you have this specified on your NIC settings?  It should NOT be configured -- remove that setting (DNS suffix for this connection) from the DNS tab on the Advanced TCP/IP Settings.

Hi Jeffery,

I have attached a screen shot of the DNS tab. I did not see "swann.local" in the (DNS Suffix for this connection) window. I made no manual entries. I used the wizards during the initial install.

Hi Jeffery,

Nothing is set in IPV6 DNS tab.
At this juncture I am just concentrating on getting the "Remote.delandrealtors.com/remote to publish. I can access it internally no problem.

I am not worried about OWA or companyweb.

With SBS 2011 you no longer use the /remote in the URL as we did with SBS 2003.  So the proper address would just be remote.delandrealtors.com.

To check internally, just to bypass DNS... on the server try going to https://sites/remote

Please advise if that is working for you.

So, if that is working, then the problem is in your internal DNS.  Rerun the Configure Internet Address Wizard followed by the Fix My Network Wizard.

That should fix up your settings correctly.
