Joomla Featured article image hyperlink not working

I'm using Joomla 2.5 for my intranet site. I added a hyperlink  to an image in an article. The hyperlink within the article works just fine.  I featured the article and the hyperlink does not work. So I can still get to the article and the article links work just fine, but the hyperlink within the image does not work off the same featured article on home page. It's like it's not even there.
Is there a configuration a setting I'm missing?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Have you tried clearing your cache, and the cache within Joomla?

Try to re-edit your link sometimes the text editor broke the link during article edition.
You can switch to HTML view (button to view the source code) this can point you the problem.

Also Is the link is a web link or internal network link?

I cleared the cache and that didn't seem to do anything.
And I reset the link, to an external source. I looked over the HTML on both the article page and the Front Page and they are different.
From the article:
<a href="http://allrecipes.com/recipe/smores/" target="_blank">&nbsp;<img style="float: left;" title="Insulation" src="/images/gpstuff/insulation.png" alt="Yummy Insulation"></a>

From the front page featured article:
<a href="http://allrecipes.com/recipe/smores/" target="_blank">&nbsp;</a>

So somewhere between the original article and the featured article that Joomla creates, something gets chopped off. And as far as I know I can't edit just the featured article in the back end, correct?

What settings do you have for your featured articles and category blog?  Check in the global configuration, and any configurations for the menu item and articles.  I think this might be related to your settings for leading vs intro articles.

I looke all through the configuration settings and didn't find any settings that would pertain to this problem. I think it may be something to do with the template, which was configured using an outside consultant. I'll may have to go there next for my answer.
Thanks for at least helping me narrow down the problem.
