Adobe Reader XI takes several minutes to open

Hi,

I've had intermittent problems with this version of the reader. The program opens without any issues when logged in as the Administrator, but takes a very long time when in as the user. Short of giving the user full Admin control, does anyone have a solution to this.

Note: I've already uninstalled, rebooted and re-installed Adobe Reader XI once. Didn't change anything. Also I've tried disabling Protected mode. Again, no joy.

Try installing from the full download file.   Uninstall Adobe Reader and restart the computer.

Go to:  ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/ and then to the version 11 folder. Download the full version 11 file.  

Install again from the file and see if the result is improved. I have Adobe V11 reader at clients with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit machines and it opens fine.

If you’ve already uninstalled Reader, this may be caused by something that remains on the system when you uninstall Reader (e.g. settings or registry keys). Here is what I would do:

Uninstall Reader, then download Adobe's Cleaner tool (http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html) and run that. Reboot the computer, download Reader again and install.

The issue turned out to be a DNS issue on my network, rather than an install issue. Thanks for your input.
