A client receives a vcf file from a client who sent it from MS Outlook. My client is using Gmail and when he clicks on the attachment, it prompts him to open the file with a list of applications. None of which open the file.

How can my client open and save the file in gmail.

You can't ,it's an Outlook only app file.

So the only way for him to hold save these files would be to use Outlook, but do not use it to create an email account, but just to save his vcf files? Is there a way to save it and then convert it to be open and saved in Gmail?

Part of the reason folks buy Outlook is for the convenience of being able to exchange data easily using those types files.

I believe you can use Outlook as a main program and use Google apps as a sync with gmail.
