If a laptop uses AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client , when is connected to VPN - unable to ping laptop from inside LAN.

Will :
Allow local (LAN) access when using VPN
or
Block connections to untrusted servers

Make a difference?

Yes, it will make a difference.
When the VPN Client is connected and configured for local LAN access, you cannot print or browse by name on the local LAN. However, you can browse or print by IP address.

For the Block connections to untrusted servers issue. It will depend if the servers have valid certificates, (self-signed or 3rd party) that may not be granted the correct permission.

Finally, once VPN is established the assigned IP that you were given from the VPN Pool may not allow ping as part of the config.
