When i start the service daemon it just does not start and which is the reason prints are not happening. Can anyone please check if its a Custom brand printer issue or Linux completely failing to handle it?

root@s:~/Downloads/VKP80_CUPSDrv_64bit-1.03# uname -a
Linux s 3.11.0-18-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 18 21:11:14 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

root@s:~/Downloads/VKP80_CUPSDrv_64bit-1.03# ls
rastertovkp80_64bit readme.txt setup VKP80_64bit.ppd.gz
root@s:~/Downloads/VKP80_CUPSDrv_64bit-1.03# ./setup
Install VKP80 CUPS Driver
./setup: 7: [: Illegal number:

Copy CUPS FILTER to /usr/lib/cups/filter
Copy VKP80 ppd files to //usr/share/cups/model/Custom
 * Stopping Common Unix Printing System: cupsd [ OK ]
 * Starting Common Unix Printing System: cupsd [fail]

Now you can add a printer queue using the Cups tool, go
to address http://localhost:631 with a simpe browser and
set up the printer

Please read the README txt file before you install.

Illegal number refers to something wrong while initalzing.

 * Starting Common Unix Printing System: cupsd                                                                               [fail]

this is the first fail notification after the installation done.

On the second manual restart there is no fail notification. please look at that.

1 - Readme said to do following:

To begin using this software, please do the following:

1. Open a shell (bash, etc.)

2. Type ./setup script

3. Goto http://localhost:631 or use your favorite CUPS admin tool.

4. Add a new printer queue for your model.

5. Print test page and see the result

Can you paste this to new file called test

#!/bin/sh

echo "Install VKP80 CUPS Driver"

ROOT_UID=0

if [ -z $RPMBUILD ] && [ "$UID" -ne "$ROOT_UID" ]
then
echo "This script requires root user access."
    exit 1
fi

and chmod +x test

execute this as ./test

see what happens?

Amber Bruelemans,

Your problem might be not specifying the file while you setup

./setup rastertovkp80_64bit

I attached here the screenshot for the 32-bit installation, and it got successfully installed on my fedora atom pc.

have you tried the 32-bit installation one?

If not try that, if that error persist you need to check CUPS installation drivers.

Try the cups is restarts fine without an error. If error pops up we need to check cups installation. Do you have any other printer installed on that machine?

When you kill the cups daemon it shouldn't auto restart in my view.

Can you name the log what you refer?, and also any other printer driver you have installed before on this system.

When i kill the daemon it auto restart /usr/sbin/cups-browsed and /usr/sbin/cupsd
Logs i am referring to /var/log/cups/error_log

There is no other printer in use now except this. In past i tried Zebra Printer and LabelWriter-450 printer but they are not in use now.

Zebra and LabelWriter, VKprint seems to be existing...

Can you change the port on the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf

Listen localhost:631 ---> unused port, above 1024 is good.

can you uninstall all those and try to install again and see?

It's look strange though, cups try to bind the socket unfortunately some other printer driver binds before it.

Have you checked the localhost:2000 on the browser? please post what's the error too.

Removed the other drivers and restarted the cups but still same, and localhost:2000 is same as 631, error logs are same like port is in use.

Please ignore all. Its working now. It was a Paper jam issue where it was 4 time flashing yellow light means that the paper was jam.

Problem was solved by contacting:  support@custom.it

Here is an attachment which proves working under Linux with Cups Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit latest kernel.

I recommend this printer to use for Linux users who needs to do some embedded kiosks.
